Chilliwack General Hospital
We will shortly be activating the eduroam service out at the Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH). This site offers full-service care in a 120-bed facility with specialty services including obstetrics, general, orthopedic and urologic surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry and a very active emergency room. It provides placement for Year 3 academic learners within the integrated Clerkship program. This program has been in place since 2004, making it the longest running integrated clerkship in Canada. Students in Chilliwack are attached to a family medicine preceptor with whom they work with one day per week. It has been known for some time now that there is a significant lapse in Wireless Internet (WiFi) coverage within the Chilliwack General Hospital site. The UBC Faculty of Medicine (FoM) Facilities and MedIT teams were asked to investigate with our colleagues from the Fraser Health Authority (FHA) to see if anything could be done about the apparent gap in the WiFi service. That investigation concluded that with a collaborative effort between the FoM and the FHA, an amendable solution was available to assist in providing WiFi to the learners and practitioners within the UBC educational and videoconference spaces at the CGH site.
The eduroam service will cover the main areas that the learners spend a majority of their academic time (lounges, study areas, on call spaces and videoconference rooms). The service is expected to be implemented by the end of March 2016.

University Hospital of Northern BC
On September 23, 2015, the eduroam broadcast was extended to throughout the University Hospital Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George, BC. This expansion is a considerable increase in the Faculty of Medicine’s wireless footprint at UHNBC: from eduroam on the fifth floor and in the newly completed Learning and Development Center to the entire hospital including the Family Practice buildings. The changes were completed in partnership with Northern Health, UHNBC and UBC IT, MedIT and Northern Medical Program (NMP) staff.
The use of eduroam at UBC’s clinical teaching sites supports UBC’s Distributed Medical Program by enabling students, staff and faculty to easily access UBC educational resources from anywhere eduroam is found. Please see UBC IT’s eduroam wireless network site for information about how to connect to eduroam.

Royal Inland Hospital
As of August 20, 2015, eduroam was made available throughout the Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops, BC. This achievement represents a major increase in the Faculty of Medicine’s wireless footprint at RIH — from ubcsecure in a couple of offices to eduroam throughout the hospital — and was completed in partnership with Interior Health, RIH and UBC IT, MedIT and Southern Medical Program (SMP) staff. This is the first site in the SMP to receive eduroam.
