Etiquette Guide

While audio conferences are an excellent substitute for in-person meetings, differences in the ways people interact when using the technology can result in a less-than-smooth experience. Keep the following guidelines in mind when you are holding an audio conference to increase the likelihood you and your meeting participants will have an optimal experience.

  • Use a headset with microphone for optimal audio quality when joining from a desk or cell phone
  • Mute microphone/telephone when not speaking
  • Use a landline when possible (cell phones can be unstable)
  • Have each participant introduce him/herself to all participants before the meeting begins
  • Refrain from multitasking while audio conferencing
