Message from the Director
Welcome to Building Connections, MedIT’s third annual Performance Report. This report highlights some of the ways that MedIT has supported the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s strategic direction during the past year.
UBC’s Faculty of Medicine is unique, operating across multiple post-secondary and healthcare organizations throughout British Columbia. Our ability to support and bring value to the Faculty depends on our ability to build and maintain connections – within MedIT, across the Faculty, throughout the University and with our partner organizations in both academia and in the health authorities.
Creating Connected Teams
MedIT is a mosaic, consisting of team membership from all of our partner organizations. In the last year, our successes have been driven by collaborative work across teams. Whether those teams are situated within UBC or our partner organizations, the sharing of expertise and organizational knowledge has been instrumental in delivering service improvements to our customers.
Within MedIT, we have begun to cultivate an environment that empowers our team members to connect different areas of expertise across our organization. Our new Systems, Services and Design team is a concrete example of this, bringing together infrastructure, facilities and service design experts to continuously improve the technologies that enable collaboration.
MedIT is built on partnerships, and the strong connections we have maintained have enabled us to create cross-organizational teams with common goals. This has been especially beneficial to network infrastructure projects, such as the Distributed Medical Program Audio-Visual network upgrade, where coordination across academic and clinical sites is imperative for project success.
Connecting With Our Customers
In a continued effort to understand the varied contexts in which our services are delivered, our customers’ voices are increasingly being incorporated into our teams. The Business Working Team for Postgraduate Medical Education’s Resident Management Project is an example of a model that has allowed our customers to be directly involved in the development of a solution to meet their complex needs.
The strong relationships we have built with our customers are predicated on our team’s ability to listen, understand the context in which our services are delivered and identify and articulate how improvements can be made.
In the next year, MedIT will continue to focus on the Faculty of Medicine’s unique needs. We will continue to listen to our customers, and strengthen our relationships with our partners. I encourage our team members within MedIT to identify and drive opportunities to bring value to the Faculty and contribute to the achievement of its strategic direction.
