Internet & Wireless Access

We can assist with gaining access to wireless services provided by UBC IT, Health Authority IT Services, and participating Distributed Medical Program (DMP) Universities (UBC, UBC’s Okanagan Campus, University of Northern BC and the University of Victoria).

You can access wireless services across UBC and affiliated BCNET institutions by using your UBC Campus-Wide Login (CWL).

Wireless Networks

The following wireless networks are available at most UBC and partner institution locations (see below for link to full coverage map):

  • eduroam: A collaborative network between national, international and partner institutions that provides its users with roaming access to the network. This is made available through users providing their institutional authorized credentials that are validated at their home institution
  • ubcsecure: The primary wireless network for UBC faculty and staff. It provides secure WiFi Protected access, so you don’t have to login each time
  • ubcprivate: Places users directly into their department’s own network and security domain, granting them access to private or restricted resources (e.g. printers, file shares, etc.)
  • ubcvisitor: Provides light browsing at no charge. No login is required
