Desktop Videoconferencing

Desktop videoconferencing (VC) enables anyone with a personal computer to connect to UBC Faculty of Medicine (FoM) VC sessions. With desktop VC you can connect from almost anywhere as long as you have a stable, high-speed internet connection, a computer that meets the technical requirements, a webcam, and headset with microphone.

Cisco Telepresence (Movi)

Movi is the desktop VC program supported by MedIT in the Faculty of Medicine. Because it is compatible with our VC infrastructure, desktop VC users can fully participate in VC sessions with people in VC rooms and other desktop VC users. Using Movi, you can:

  1. Dial another Movi desktop VC user directly using their name – no booking required.
  2. Meet with more than one other desktop VC users using a Bridge ID by prescheduling a meeting through FoM Room Booking.
  3. Meet with participants in FoM VC rooms by prescheduling a meeting through FoM Room Booking. Both a Bridge ID and required rooms must be reserved.

Other desktop VC programs (e.g. Skype), while free and available on the internet, are not compatible and cannot be used to participate in VC sessions taking place on Faculty of Medicine VC infrastructure.

This service is available to MD undergraduate program affiliates who meet the technical and user case requirements. Applicants with other Faculty of Medicine education or research requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
