Who We Are

MedIT provides the UBC Faculty of Medicine with IT services in support of health education, research, and administration. We work in strategic partnership with the University of Victoria, the University of Northern British Columbia and the six health authorities.  We support our customers’ unique needs through the following seven management portfolios:

Application Services

Application Services helps ensure that the technology supporting applications, websites and databases provides the maximum benefit to the Faculty. The team does this by providing operational support to people within the Faculty and by participating in projects lead through the Program Management Office.

Change and Customer Experience

The Change and Customer Experience team ensures that all projects and programs have a change management plan for managing the people side of change. They make sure that MedIT’s online presence reflects the information customers need to know in a language they understand. They assist MedIT staff with developing their communications skills and aim to ensure MedIT customers receive an equivalent level of service from all areas of MedIT.

Client Services

Client Services is the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for MedIT’s customers, supporting both our video conference and IT infrastructure. The team is comprised of two areas of focus: Desktop Support, and the Service Desk. Technicians work directly with our faculty and staff to address incidents, problems, and requests.

Collaboration Technologies

Collaboration Technologies provides synchronous communications in support of the Faculty of Medicine’s mandate – in particular the Distributed Medical Education Program. Faculty, staff, researchers and students require the ability to meet and share information using voice and video. CT’s services are identified as any technology using real-time communication to facilitate learning locally and across the distances that separate our numerous facilities in the province. The creation of this new portfolio will enhance our ability to distribute education to the far reaches of British Columbia.

Educational Technology

The EdTech group provides instructional services, and designs and supports learning technologies for all faculty teaching in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Its mandate includes establishing an educational technology strategy that meets the requirements of the Faculty, as well as providing tools, guidance and services that support learning and teaching. Our goal is increased student engagement and improved learning outcomes. The restructuring better enables the Faculty of Medicine to meet the objectives outlined in the Educational Technology Strategy.

Program Management Office

MedIT’s Program Management Office (PMO) is a service integrator in support of MedIT and its customers, stakeholders and partners. It encompasses all the people, processes and tools to manage projects and influence project performance. The PMO focuses on delivering successful projects and programs by establishing and maintaining a project management framework, and providing support. It has a four pillar structure, focusing on demand management, resource management, reporting and support, and practice management. The creation of a Program Management Office means that MedIT will be using a consistent methodology for delivering MedIT’s initiatives, on time and on budget.
