2. Where do video and media have the greatest impact on teaching and learning?

Faculty members have used our services previously to interview subject matter experts, create clinical skills videos, make dynamic audio-visual podcasts which illustrate complex anatomical concepts, and more.

We can design digital media for solo viewing and/or for group interactions.

3. What type of equipment is necessary and who is responsible for arranging it?

This depends on your project. In most cases, cameras, microphones, tripods, editing, and post-production equipment are included in the service. In some cases faculty will wish to use their own computers and software to create content for the digital media presentations. We do not provide editing software or facilities to clients.

4. What is the associated cost of producing videos or digital media?

We provide the video and digital media service free of charge to faculty or staff who wish to use it for the purpose of teaching and learning or program improvement in the Faculty of Medicine. Additional fees, such as payment to performers or facility rental fees are not covered by our service.

5. What is the turnaround time?

This depends on the scale of the project. A video project may take between three and nine months with detailed creative consultation including scripting, story editing and logistical planning. We suggest contacting MedIT at least 6 months prior to when you require the video or digital media. Our team can be busy with multiple projects, and there may be a queue for service. Contact us as early as possible to begin discussions.

7. I want to create a video, but I don’t know how to conceptualize it. Can you help with that?

You must have a clear objective before we can begin a production. Who is your audience? What are your key messages? How will you deliver the media (i.e. will students see the video online)?

We can assist with creative conceptualization for the video or presentation, relying on your subject matter expertise. We can also provide examples of work that may spark ideas.

The clearer your concept from the outset, the more simple, collaborative, and effective the process will be.

8. Am I allowed to film patients, and who is responsible for obtaining consent?

If patients will be included in the video or digital media, they need to be fully informed of how this production will be used and must give explicit consent. Obtaining the written consent of the patient is the responsibility of the faculty member requesting the video and digital media.

9. Am I allowed to film students?

Students must give informed written consent of their inclusion in digital media. We can provide release form templates for clients.

11. What type of video and digital media work is not a part of this service?

For all projects, it is your responsibility to coordinate the logistics of the project. Your staff may be helpful in aiding this process, and many have already participated in planning videos.
